Renown drummer and composer, the late, great Max Roach, was feted by Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium and Concord Baptist Church of Christ on what would have been this jazz giant’s 99th birthday; and launched a series of events coming in 2023 leading to Roach’s centennial birthday.
Mongo Santamaria, Ray Baretto, Candido all Latin artists who’ve lead their bands into “A” rooms (i.e., Blue Note, Village Gate, Carnegie Hall) throughout New York City by use of the percussion, trap drum, notwithstanding.
Turning 21 years old after a one-year pandemic induced hiatus, the “Jazz in the Valley” concert returns in person to serenade hungry jazz aficionados with the music and atmosphere they love on August 15.
The last live performance in 2019 featured bassist Ron Carter. Past concerts featured Ahmad Jamal, Les McCann and Randy Weston, to name a few. Established in 2000, “Valley” has become the perfect entertainment getaway, a bucolic setting at Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie, New York.
